UPDATE Saturday 26 March 2022

The police investigation into the incident on Thursday (24 March 2022) morning in which a man died is continuing.

A further two men were arrested yesterday (25 March) and all seven men arrested in connection with this incident have now been released whilst police continue to make enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

UPDATE Friday 25 March 2022

Police have made a further two arrests in connection with the investigation. Seven people have now been arrested in total.

Detective Superintendent Wayne Fox who is leading the investigation has said:

“A scene will remain in place at Millgate over the coming days.

“The public should expect to see an increased visible police presence in the Selby area over the weekend. I hope the community feel reassured by this and not alarmed. I would urge anyone who has a concern to speak to officers on patrol.

UPDATE 5.30pm Thursday 24 March 2022

Detective Superintendent Wayne Fox has issued the following update:

"The investigation following last night’s incident in Selby is continuing. A 21-year-old man who was arrested in the early hours of this morning on suspicion of murder currently remains in police custody.

"We have also made four further arrests in relation to this investigation today.

"Understandably this incident is shocking for members of the local community, but I would like to stress that we are currently treating this as an isolated incident.

"Members of the public should expect to see an increased police presence in the area over the coming days as a way of us reassuring the local community. Please feel free to speak to officers if you have any concerns.

"I would urge anyone who has any information in relation to this incident to contact us via submitting information online at https://www.mipp.police.uk/

UPDATE 11.06am Thursday 24 March 2022

Police were called to reports of a disturbance at an address on Millgate shortly before 1.15am this morning (Thursday 24 March 2022). Officers attended along with the ambulance service.

Police can confirm that a man was pronounced dead at the property and this is currently being treated as a murder investigation.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident. The man remains in police custody.

A scene guard is currently in place and is expected to remain for some time.
