Investigation underway after tragic deaths of two people in house fire near Selby

UPDATE: 10.04am 24 June 2022 - Scene closed down

Following the tragic house fire at Camblesforth near Selby on Sunday (19 June 2022), our enquiries at the scene have concluded and along with North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue we are working to ensure the property is safe.

UPDATE: 8.57pm Sunday 19 June 2022

Following this morning’s house fire in Camblesforth, a joint fire service and police investigation is underway.

Despite the efforts of firefighters and a local man to save their lives, two people sadly died at the scene. One man managed to escape the property and is currently receiving medical treatment.

No neighbouring properties were damaged.

Specialist teams from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue attended the incident to help with stabilisation of the property in order to assist the investigation process.

As part of the joint investigation to determine the cause of the fire, we are asking people to come forward with any information that could help the inquiry.

STATEMENT: 8.50am Sunday 19 June 2022

North Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue are currently at the scene of a serious house fire in Camblesforth near Selby.

The incident occurred shortly after 5am this morning (19 June 2022) and crews from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue attended with assistance from Humberside Fire and Rescue and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.

The fire was brought under control shortly before 7.30am and crews are still in attendance damping down and ensuring scene safety.

Investigations will commence once the scene is safe. If you have any information which could help the investigation, please call 101, press option 1 and ask for the Force Control Room.
