If you have leadership skills and want to use them to make a difference to communities across North Yorkshire, a job as an Inspector could be for you.
The Direct Entry Inspector programme is for exceptional individuals who do not have a policing background but do have the necessary skills, experience and aptitude. It's for people with proven leadership and management skills who want a new, challenging and rewarding career. The two year programme has been designed to deliver robust and comprehensive training to ensure that, on completion, you will be a highly competent uniformed operational inspector able to make a positive impact on policing and your community.
Inspector is a crucial role within North Yorkshire Police. You could be responsible for making a wide range of decisions. Some will be strategic, some will be operational but all will be important. You could also be leading large teams of sergeants, police constables and Police Community Support Officers. You’ll do all this in an exciting, fast-paced environment in which your actions have a direct impact on the people and communities we serve.
The 24-month direct entry inspector programme is run by the College of Policing – the national training and development body for police officers. Starting Salary c. £50,000.
While the focus of this programme is to attract individuals with exceptional leadership skills from outside policing, you will still need to take on the responsibilities of being a police officer. That means that you will need to meet the same eligibility criteria required of anyone else who joins the police service.
These criteria include checks into your finances, previous criminal convictions, fitness and membership of political groups. We typically expect candidates to have a Level 6/7 qualification (a degree or similar qualification) but will also consider applicants who can demonstrate equivalent level experience.
